On the 20th of February the latest production of the Wrocław-based director Konrad Aksinowicz appeared in the cinemas. The writer of the screenplay, Cezary Harasimowicz, is closely linked with Wrocław and Interscenario.
Zmiana handles the difficult subject of male-female relationships, but teasingly wraps it in a tinsel of absurdity and wit. The main protagonists are the president of the Republic of Poland (Piotr Gąsowski) running for another term and his wife (Grażyna Wolszczak). He is an alpha male type, extremely popular and all-round hero who, for no apparent reason starts to lose his manliness along with points in the opinion polls. She – the lonely, pitied and betrayed wife, all of a sudden becomes strong, independent, and er… manly, and then, out of the blue, she becomes the main opponent of her husband in the presidential campaign. In the background lurk a sexy secretary (Joanna Liszkowska) and a galaxy of familiar stars of Polish cinema (among others Tyszkiewicz, Szapołowska, Materna, Tyniec), who play daring and often unusual parts.
The film is marketed as a “sextreme comedy”. As the director, Konrad Aksinowicz, told Gazeta.pl it’s the huge variety of sexual interrelations that makes this film sextreme. The president and the first lady swap roles, Michał Wiśniewski is a transvestite imprisoned in a female body, we have a woman who used to be a man, and Krzysztof Tyniec plays a gay guy.
